CRAP!!!
I really need to start looking at my course outlines more closely, I thought I only had to do an essay presentation (a mini thesis defence, basically) tomorrow for New Media and Society but I also have to hand in an essay outline as well, that will require a little more writing than an presentation... I was this close to getting a good nights sleep.

Also my sister is sick (headache, nausea, vomiting, possible migraine but she feels like she is getting a fever too) if what she has is contagious I will not be happy.

Speaking of my sister she is going home on Wednesday, then I can get back to spending all my time on LJ, yay! Also if you are signed up for my Sports Night the questionnaire will finally (I had to get various approvals) posted tomorrow, I'll email everyone who expressed interest when it is up and post to the communities etc.

I have a massive catch-up post to write Wednesday night, I've been to half of Melbourne's major attractions in the last week. Which explains why I haven't been here.

And finally House tomorrow! YAYS!

I'm still alive!
I'm still here, just very busy right now.

My sister is staying with me at the moment and man has that lead to some nerdy scenes. Such as the two of us discussing the relative merits of the various incarnations of The Doctor (Ten pwns all.) Each of us sitting at a computer trawling wikipedia whilst a third computer is being used as a video player/jukebox, both of us reading fandom!secrets and discussing them and the list goes on an on. My sister has been fairly easygoing thus far (she has a tendency to get very highstrung and stressed when out of her home environment) and generally fun to be around.

I also have a sociology essay due next Monday and I've started to seriously research/write it which is also taking up time.

Also my sister being here using the internet and some asshole in my building stealing my internet means that I'm currently suffering though 12 days of 64kb hell so flisting is taking forever.

That said I've been kind of glad to miss the House/Wilson fans acting like total fuckwits, God I hate House fandom, I've been in fandom for 15 years now and I have ever seen a group of people behave as consistently ridiculously as the various House shipper groups do.

Also this (X-files spoiler pic) ) caused my sister and I to squee for about three hours straight when we saw it and speaking of The X-files does anyone know if the trailer for XF:IWTB is going to be attached to Ironman in Australia as well? My sister and I are considering seeing it and if the trailer was attached then we would 99% go.

Random thoughts of randomness.
01. I have a bruise on the back of my hand that is a) very painful and b) completely mysterious in its origins, LAME.

02. I'm hating public transport even more than usual right now. There is tram work on Flinders Street in the city which means that the buses that go to and from La Trobe are being diveted. They are supposed to be running on Lonsdale Street which is actually more convienient for me as my bus runs along Lonsdale, too bad that in reality they are running to no predefined route whatsoever and it is pretty much up to random chance as to whether the bus will show or not. I've pretty much given up on the bus service for the time being and have started catching the tram instead which is a total pain in the ass as the tram takes about 70 minutes on a good run and up to 90 minutes in peak hour (the bus takes 40 minutes if it is an express service and 50-60 minutes if it is a Clifton Hill service.) The fact that everyone else who travels to La Trobe from the city also seems to be catching the tram isn't helping, I had to stand for the whole trip on Monday which for me is a total nightmare, my disabilitiy makes it difficult to balance at the best of time and makes standing on a moving object that repeatedly stops and starts a near impossibility. I was so exhausted by the time I got to university, I felt like I had run a marathon from the effort it took to remain upright and not fall. I've also had to stand on the bus on the way home a fair bit though I don't find it as difficult as the tram it is still pretty tiring.

03. Never Again is such an awesome episode of The X-files with all the discontent, rebellious, tattoo-getting, sextastic Scully and Mulder at Graceland, so much win there.

04. NEW EPISODE OF 30 ROCK TODAY! YAYS!!! I can barely wait.

05. I am finished all of my mid-semester assessment, I have written 33 pages of text in just under three weeks and for a change I'm actually feeing pretty confident with my work which probably means it sucks. Now all I have to do is complete two major research projects, one a qualitative study of Sports Night fandom and one a media discourse analysis of AFL coverage in Sydney and Melbourne, write papers with the data gathered from those research projects, complete two presentations, wirte an essay and complete an exam. God that seems like A LOT OF WORK.

06. This House/Wilson vid by [info]cryptictac is all kinds of brilliant, go watch!

so I kinda took a little hiatus...
Which was initially because I was completely wiped after the first half of the first assignment period at uni (In which I read three 40 page journal articles and wrote a 1,500 word piece of assessment based on them for sociology and performed data synethesis and analysis of three 45 minute long interviews I designed and administered then wrote and delievered a 20 miniute presentation based on my findings for media studies) and didn't want to write or read anything, journal entries or otherwise.

I basically sat around the house, played The Sims 2 (I just got the vacation expansion pack) and watched a hell of a lot of TV (which I will discuss below.)

It turned out pretty awesomely for me because I was able to steer clear of all the drama that has been going down in livejournal over the last week (i.e. the "strike") and instead rediscover some old fandoms and discover new ones. Mainly through actually watching TV something I don't do a lot of lately.

I watched all nine episodes of Private Practice, which I have watched once before but mostly as I was going to sleep at night (I'm one of those people WHO CANNOT FALL ASLEEP without noise) so I missed a lot of things. I love this show, I think I actually prefer it to Grey's Anatomy, mainly because it is less focused on the medicine so I don't get enraged everytime they Shonda and Co. manage to make simple mistakes. I also prefer the characters on this show (the George/Izzie thing on Grey's and Izzie's character in general post Denny are driving me up the wall,) I have like three ships, Cooper/Violet, Addison/Pete and Sam/Naomi and I of course love that it is Addison focused, because Addie wins.

Private Practice 1.01-1.09 - Random Musings )

I'm going through a X-Files renaissance at the moment, watching season one again from the very beginning really paying attention as opposed to using it as comforting background noise. The X-files was my first fandom 15 years ago (I watched it with my mum.) I wrote my first piece of fanfiction in 1993 (when I was 11 1/2,) it was a 500 (or so) word MSR that involved thier first kiss (and I'm fairly sure was horiffically bad,) I carried it around on a floppy disk (I feel old just writing the words floppy disk) and eventually posted it to alt.tv.xfiles when I finally got the internet in high school (I searched and I can't find it, it probably is still there somewhere.)

The first season is so brilliant. Some of the best episodes of the whole series are season one episodes. Beyond The Sea is still, at least to me one of the best episodes of any TV show ever.

I am so hyped for the movie now, it comes out the week after my birthday, w00t.

House 4.11 Frozen and House 4.12 Don't Ever Change )

Ludachristmas is the best episode of 30 Rock to date, it was so good I wanted to take it out behind the middle school and get it pregnant, Secrets and lies was pretty good too.

Well that pretty much brings me up to yesterday (when I started writing this entry) and I think this is probably lone enough not so I'll leave it there but you can expect some spamming from me over the next few days as I ease back into things:-)

One last thing, new layout! [info]stare_me_out[info]stare_me_out[info]stare_me_out[info]stare_me_out[info]stare_me_out[info]stare_me_out[info]stare_me_out[info]stare_me_out

Wilson/Volakis & Cut Throat Bitch Friending Meme
Yeah, so after being way too busy to watch any TV for what feels like weeks I finally got to watching the most recent episodes of House and well, now I'm a total Wilson/Volakis fangirl (after been a fan of Amber for quite a few episodes, I seem to like the less popular ships and characters, my OTP is House/Stacy) and need more people to squee with, about Wilson and Amber, Amber minus wilson and about House in general (not that I don't already have a heap of fellow House fans on my flist already.) So friending meme time.

Dude, awesome!

Your Score: Dr. Gregory House

65% Eccentricity, 55% Confidence, 15% Kindness

Congratulations, you're the man himself, Dr. Gregory House! You're quite strange, and usually do your own thing regardless of what anyone else thinks. This is partially because a person with an ego as large as yours could not care less what anyone else thinks or feels about anything. Unless, of course, they're your patient and they're dying--but only if they're dying of something interesting! You're a definite asshole to most other people, but at least you know how to be one in style, with an awesome wit, comfortable sneakers, and a never ending variety of facial expressions.

Long time, no write
University continues to kick my ass but I'm finally getting the upper hand and feeling like I'm in control. I have finished my radio history essay (and feel really confident about it), am working on my essay about Pakistan (which would be going a lot better if I could find a workable definition of Islamic Republic from a non-Wikipedia source and knew how to use the Harvard referencing system, Chicago I can do in my sleep now but I'm still really weak with Harvard and suck at using MLA and APA) and will complete my other four (one of which is half-done so 3.5 and one which is actually an annotated bibliography not an essay so 2.5) essays when I'm in Sydney from the 26 October-6th November.

My mum, Julie and Gab are coming down on Tuesday and will be staying until Friday, then I'm going to Sydney because I AM GOING TO SEE CROWDED HOUSE (as much as I hate the circumstances in which Nick and Neil were brought together again and as much as it just won't be the same without Paul I still can't believe that I actually get to see Crowded House)!!! TWICE!!! AND AGAIN IN MELBOURNE!!! I can't believe it is only 14 days! It has been 11 months since I have seen a Finn perform live (That was Tim at the Forum in January) and almost 18 months since I have seen Neil in any incarnation. 11 months is the longest I have gone without seeing a Finn brother since July 2005 (which is the first time I saw either one of them live due to a variety of reasons including but not limited to student poverty, the Crowdies habit of playing in over 18's venues back in the day and my parents being total assholes and not letting me go to Farewell to the World, for which they will never be fully forgiven.)

I hope my Neil staking efforts pay off again, I have been lucky in the past:

Adventures in stalking )

Still on a fannish note, I like the two most recent episodes of House but will need to watch them again, as I was so wiped out the first time I watched them I barely remember them and 30 Rock is my new girlfriend, until such time as I get a new one and since it has been three years I'm not exactly optimistic on that front.

On a not cool and not fannish note I fell over on Thursday night running to catch a bus and have done some semi-serious damage to my already damaged left knee. I was running, which I almost never do because I have mild foot drop (which is worse in my left foot thanks to some drunken asshole on a tram who stepped on my awkwardly positioned ankle last year tore a bunch of ligaments) and running makes it much worse, combine that with the fact that I was trying to get the bus drivers attention instead of looking where I was going (I almost always look down at my feet when I walk to make sure I'm aware of what is ahead of me so I can step higher if I need too which looks odd but is better than falling) and the next thing I know I've tripped over a speed hump/divider type thing in the road and fallen left knee first into the next one along. Thankfully the damage only soft tissue bruising but the knee couldn't really take anymore damage that it already had and has started to get all clicky and locky again from me trying to position it so it doesn't hurt, blerg.

I have more to say but I need to get back to my essay so more later.

1. 2. 3. 4...
01. House 4.01 - Alone )

02. Is anyone else bothered by the fact that following House's temporarily successful ketamine treatment in 3.01 that in addition to no longer feeling pain he also regains full use of his leg? The fact that he no longer feels pain does not negate the fact that he is missing (what would appear to be, judging by his commentary at the end of Three Stories) a rather substantial portion of of his right quadriceps. I buy that he may have been able to walk short distances without a cane, but skateboarding and running, not so much.

03. I am in love with 30 Rock, I've downloaded and watched the first four episodes thus far and it now owns my soul.

04. Cut for a casting spoiler regarding the US version of Kath & Kim, which isn't really a spoiler since it was printed in today's Herald Sun... )

05. University is kicking my ass right now. I have three 1,500+ word essays due in it the next two weeks, an annotated bibliography to write and a 2,000 word essay due on the 5th of November (which I'm going to have to hand in on by the 23rd of October because my mum, Julie and Gab are coming down which means I'll get absolutely no work done and them I'm going back to Sydney with them on the 27th until the 8th November.) Somehow between all these assessment I'm supposed to do all my readings and go to class too.

06. This month is one of those rare months in which I get paid three times before my rent is due again which means I have an extra $400 to play with. Last time I spent the lot on DVD's and I was highly tempted to do the same again, until I remembered that my parents were no longer going to buy me the Nintendo DS I wanted for Christmas because they are buying me things for the apartment instead so I brought a Nintendo DS, got a free game with it Pixar's Cars which is a much better game than I expected it to be and brought two more games in the form of the first Brain Training game (because I am a total nerd and love games like that) and Animal Crossing: Wild World which I have promptly become obsessed with, it is like the console version of The Sims except Japanese and on CRACK! I also brought an AFL themed protector that came with inserts for all 16 teams, I had the Geelong inserts in for about three hours until I was overcome with guilt and switched them out for my Saints. Yay, no more being bored whilst traveling 4-6 hours a day to and from uni.

07. Speaking of travel, every time I pass the stop where I'll get off the tram once I move, knowing that I have another 20-40 minutes (depending on traffic) to go before I get here I get a little bit more pissed off.

08. There is no 08:-)

Shamelessly pimping [info]wilson_fest (again.)
The claims post for this round of [info]wilson_fest has been released, there are 299 prompts available so something will suit you.

Just don't claim:

100. Wilson gets dressed for a special occasion.

228. Stacy/Wilson: The dinner Wilson ditched House and monster trucks for.

'cause they are MINEEEEEE!

And secretly, if you do claim any of the following:

243. Stacy/Wilson: comfort sex following House’s infarction.

244. Stacy/Wilson: battle wounds or scars, can be literal/metaphorical, but should involve House somehow

245. Stacy/Wilson: Five times Wilson and Stacy almost had sex, and one time they did.

246. Stacy/Wilson: Stacy needs to be needed too. Bonus points if you have an emotionally unstable Wilson

247. House/Wilson: Wilson sees House’s scar for the first time. Preferably first or second person.

248. House/Wilson: broken either metaphorically, emotionally, or physically. Preferably Wilson is the broken one.

250. House/Wilson: sleep deprivation

253. House/Wilson: tie!kink Wilson

254. House/Wilson – food

255. House/Wilson – desk sex

256. House/Stacy/Wilson – blindfold

258. House/Stacy/Wilson – someone gets tied up

I'll bake you really nice cookies or something.

Things.
1. The damn politics thing is finished, suckily and 150 words overlong but done.

2. [info]cryptictac is evil, she made me fall in love with House/Stacy (I merely liked them before,) Now I'm capping every House/Stacy scene to make icons because they deserve A LOT more love.

3. We get season 4 of House at the same time as the US, squee!

4. My parents, my sister, mum's friend Kerry (whom I've never actually met but know a ridiculous amount about) and Kerry's daughter Amy (who is the same age as my sister) are coming down here for two days next week. Then my parents and my sister are coming down for another week in two weeks time, maybe three and then mum and Julie (an possibly Gabby) are coming down in October and then mum is coming down in November with her friends Kerrie, Joanne and Brenda. Well that's my time with the family quota filled for the year. No I'm actually looking forward to seeing them again, it is amazing what time apart can do for family relationships, I actually talk to my dad on the phone about once every 10 days, I would have been lucky to have one decent conversation with him per month when I was living at home. The only downside to this is that this is all during term time and my parents fail at realizing just how much work is required to do well in an arts degree, also I'm staying at the hotel with them so I get little breaks from my evil housemates.

5. The loan is approved, I'm getting a new apartment! DOUBLE SQUEE! I'm going to be a little more motivated to haul my ass out of bed at 7am on a Sunday to go property hunting now.

6. I wish I had been a contestant on Temptation tonight, they asked questions about The West Wing and Angels In America, Temptation FTW!

7. I want these t-shirts so bad right now. )

I want a) because my Asian studies lecturer James has a massive range of Chinese kitcsh and I'm totally obsessed with it and I want b) because L.O.U.D. (La Trobe Organization of University Debaters, of which I'm a proud member, does this make me a total nerd Y/Y?) can turn a debate about any given topic in to one or any combination of the following i) The Jarvis defence ie: New Zealand fails epically at everything ergo everything else is better than NZ (bouns points are given if I'm ajudicating and you manage to detach Neil Finn from his Kiwi roots) ii) a series of increasingly outrageous and hilarious analogies to pornography or iii) a series of hilarious and increasingly irrelavant to the topic being debated "In Soviet Russia" jokes.

8. That is all, I declare this post over.

I hate this essay (well not really essay, more short exercise) with a blinding passion.

How the fuck am I supposed to answer the question: "A global coalition has emerged in recent years calling for an end to global poverty. What is your assessment of the “Make Poverty History” campaign, with particular reference to its objectives, methods, participation and leadership?" in 650 words.

To paraphrase Josh Lyman "a 650 word limit is gonna kind of cramp my style."
