Should Win
Will Win
Outstanding Drama Series
Boston Legal
Grey's Anatomy
Heroes
House
The Sopranos
Yeah, left-field pick for should win, but both GA and House haven't been up to standard this year and the final season of The Sopranos was a relative letdown from deasons past. From what I've seen of Heroes (which is more than enough to convince me that I must have it on DVD) it has had a much more consistent season than House, GA or The Sopranos.
Outstanding Comedy Series
30 Rock
Entourage
The Office
Two and a Half Men
Ugly Betty
This is a tough catergory to pick, the should win for me was easy, Entourage is consistently interesting, funny viewing, as to who will win though, Emmy has been known to make some pretty dodgy decisions in this department (the fact that Two and a Half Men is even nomoniated is proof of that) but I think they'll jump on the oh so popular Ugly Betty bandwagon.
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series
Denis Leary - Rescue Me
Hugh Laurie - House
James Gandolfini - The Sopranos
James Spader - Boston Legal
Kiefer Sutherland - 24
This is another hard one to pick, will they go for James Gandolfini's swansong performance as Tony Soprano or continue the Kiefer Sutherland love (which I have never really understood?) Sadly I don't think that Hugh Laurie has a chance in hell this year, not against both Gandolfini (I wouldn't be unhappy if he won, I'd just prefer to see Hugh win) and Sutherland.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Edie Falco - The Sopranos
Kyra Sedgwick - The Closer
Mariska Hargitay - Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
Minnie Driver - The Riches
Patricia Arquette - Medium
Sally Field - Brothers & Sisters
I. really have no idea, again, they could go with Falco who gave us nearly a decade of flawless perfromances as Carmella Soprano and who I'd like to see take it out or they could go with anyone else in the field, I think maybe Sally Field has the edge though, just because she is Sally Field.
Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series
Alec Baldwin - 30 Rock
Charlie Sheen - Two and a Half Men
Ricky Gervais - Extras
Steve Carrell - The Office
Tony Shalhoub - Monk
Ricky Gervais should win, he is wonderful, he won't win though. I was torn between going with Tony Shalhoub or Alec Baldwin but I think Baldwin has the momentum. I didn't even know Monk was still on the air. If Charlie Sheen wins I will throw-up in disgust.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series
America Ferrera - Ugly Betty
Felicity Huffman - Desperate Housewives
Julia Louis-Dreyfus - The New Adventures of Old Christine
Mary-Louise Parker - Weeds
Tina Fey - 30 Rock
This catergory is like choosing your favorite child. Three of my very favorite actresses are represented in Parker, Huffman and Fey. I eventually chose Parker though as she is so facinating to watch as Nancy Botwin and does such a good job of dealing with a wide range of emotions. I think Emmy voters will jump on the America Ferrera bandwagon though.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series
Masi Oka - Heroes
Michael Emerson - LOST
Michael Imperioli - The Sopranos
T.R. Knight - Grey's Anatomy
Terry O'Quinn - LOST
William Shatner - Boston Legal
I'd love to see Masi Oka win but I don't think it will happen this year, I had no idea who to go with but maybe T.R., I don't really know why, Emmy voters will probably go for the highlycraptastic dramatic George/Izzie scenes though.
Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series
Chandra Wilson - Grey's Anatomy
Katherine Heigl - Grey's Anatomy
Rachel Griffiths - Brothers & Sisters
Aida Turturro - The Sopranos
Lorraine Bracco - The Sopranos
Sandra Oh - Grey's Anatomy
How Lorraine Bracco did not win for her performance in Employee of the Month is still one of life's great mysteries as far as I'm concerned, she deserves an Enmmy Damnit! Rachel Griffiths may very well win thanks to votes being split between the three GA gals and Bracco and Turturro.
Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
Kevin Dillon - Entourage
Jeremy Piven - Entourage
Neil Patrick Harris - How I Met Your Mother
Rainn Wilson - The Office
Jon Cryer - Two and a Half Men
The Piv should win however for reasons passing my understanding Emmy voters have a hard on for Jon Cryer, so he'll probably take it out.
Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series
Jaime Pressly - My Name is Earl
Jenna Fischer - The Office
Holland Taylor - Two And A Half Men
Conchata Ferrell - Two And A Half Men
Vanessa Williams - Ugly Betty
Elizabeth Perkins - Weeds
Celia Hodes is made of win, however I think Emmy voters might be turned off by a character who is unlikeable as she is. Pressly is strong in MNiE and I think she might just win.
Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program
Ellen DeGeneres - 79th Annual Academy Awards
Stephen Colbert - The Colbert Report
Jon Stewart - The Daily Show With Jon Stewart
David Letterman - The Late Show With David Letterman
Tony Bennett - Tony Bennett: An American Classic
Stephen should win but Emmy voters love giving this caterogry to old dudes.
Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
Late Night with Conan O'Brien
Late Show with David Letterman
Real Time with Bill Maher
The Colbert Report
The Colbert Report deserves to win in this catergory so badly but Emmy voters are boring so David Letterman will win, yet again.
