♥ Your cupcake history: I've been partial to cupcakes for about a year now, and particularly love trying out new recipes and interesting combinations. My first ever cupcakes were Paula Deen's Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting.

♥ Why you like cupcakes: They're the perfect size, easy to make adorable, and so fun to reveal. No cake cutting necessary. I also love cake balls (you can see my little chickie cake ball in my user icon) and basically anything delicious.

♥ Anything to share?: I'm excited to have found this cupcake-specific community! I'm surprised I haven't really looked for one before. I'm making some savory cupcakes tomorrow, so perhaps that'll be my first "official" cupcake posting -- if they turn out! Ghana glows in spotlight of Obama visit

It is the only sub-Saharan stop in President Obama's trip this week, a choice that analysts say acknowledges its democratic and economic gains.

Reporting from Accra, Ghana -- The White House's choice of Ghana as President Obama's only port of call in sub-Saharan Africa this week has triggered envy across the continent.

The visit, his first to sub-Saharan Africa since becoming president, is also being interpreted as a snub to those African governments with records of corruption, poor administration and tainted elections.

"It makes sense that Obama would want to go to Ghana. Because Ghana is everything we are not," wrote journalist Ayisha Osori in the Nigerian daily This Day.

"Ghana is a shiny example of a West African country which has turned itself around and is doing well."

This is new to me and I love it: Carrotmob. It is a method of activism that leverages consumer power to make the most socially-responsible business practices also the most profitable choices. Businesses compete with one another to see who can do the most good, and then a big mob of consumers buys products in order to reward whichever business made the strongest commitment to improve the world.

It’s easier to understand if you look at an example. In the first ever Carrotmob event, a liquor store agreed to invest in upgrades that made their store more energy-efficient. In exchange, hundreds of Carrotmobbers showed up at once to support the winning liquor store.

Two Men Charged With Hate Crime In Attack On Queens Transgender Woman

 

Two NYC men are under arrest and charged with a hate crime after throwing rocks and beer bottles at a transgender woman in Queens.

"I was being attacked because of who I am," said victim Carmella Etienne, 22. "I'm pretty traumatized." Nathaniel Mims, 25, and Rasheed Thomas, 22, allegedly screamed anti-gay slurs and threatened to cut the woman's throat Wednesday night in St. Albans. They face charges of assault as a hate crime, menacing and harassment. "I didn't know you could get locked up for calling somebody names," Thomas said after his arrest, according to prosecutors. "I called her a bunch of names. I called her a [expletive deleted], but she didn't see me throw anything." Etienne, hit in the leg, told cops she saw the men throwing things at her. "They were yelling homophobic slurs at me. They threatened to kill me. Chunky rocks and empty beer bottles they were throwing at me," said the aspiring fashion designer. "Don't ever walk that block anymore or we will slash your throat," one of the defendants said, according to cops. Etienne is now afraid to leave her home. "The law will hopefully put them to justice. I love being myself," she said.

Etienne was treated for a deep cut to her leg and has been released from the hospital. The men are being held on $5000 bail and face up to 15 years in prison if convicted. NYC has experienced a rash of assaults against LGBT people over the last few weeks.
