I really need to start looking at my course outlines more closely, I thought I only had to do an essay presentation (a mini thesis defence, basically) tomorrow for New Media and Society but I also have to hand in an essay outline as well, that will require a little more writing than an presentation... I was this close to getting a good nights sleep.

Also my sister is sick (headache, nausea, vomiting, possible migraine but she feels like she is getting a fever too) if what she has is contagious I will not be happy.

Speaking of my sister she is going home on Wednesday, then I can get back to spending all my time on LJ, yay! Also if you are signed up for my Sports Night the questionnaire will finally (I had to get various approvals) posted tomorrow, I'll email everyone who expressed interest when it is up and post to the communities etc.

I have a massive catch-up post to write Wednesday night, I've been to half of Melbourne's major attractions in the last week. Which explains why I haven't been here.

I am so over sociology right now.

(And yes the essay was due yesterday, I'm still working on it, I'll hand it in tomorrow.)

And to add to my frustration someone who appears to have some highly contagious nasty chest thing just sat down two tables down from me. They have the most charming barking cough.

I haven't seen the two latest 30 Rock episodes yet, I have them downloaded but I haven't had the time, stop eating my life, La Trobe.

You and I are a Gang of Losers - The Dears - I love this song so much and it reminds me of Mulder and Scully. My sister who has launched into full X-files fangirlishness since being here with me agrees about this song being very Mulder and Scully.

I have a sociology essay due on Monday and I have barely started but I'm not worried. Yet.

I brought two long-sleeved t-shirts, two short-sleeved t-shirts and a scarf from Cotton On today for $50.00, I win shopping, they fit really well too, I'm going to go back and get more.

My sister and I went to Chapel Street today where she got the most awesome new handbag (handbags are like a fandom for my sister, seriously, I've never seen someone devote so much time and/or money to the acquisition of handbags, she is like the Imelda Marcos of handbags.)

(Also my sister can make any hat look good. The hat she is wearing in this picture makes me look slightly well, challenged.)

I'm going to a party tomorrow night, yay, I haven't been to a party in ages.

I'm still here, just very busy right now.

My sister is staying with me at the moment and man has that lead to some nerdy scenes. Such as the two of us discussing the relative merits of the various incarnations of The Doctor (Ten pwns all.) Each of us sitting at a computer trawling wikipedia whilst a third computer is being used as a video player/jukebox, both of us reading fandom!secrets and discussing them and the list goes on an on. My sister has been fairly easygoing thus far (she has a tendency to get very highstrung and stressed when out of her home environment) and generally fun to be around.

I also have a sociology essay due next Monday and I've started to seriously research/write it which is also taking up time.

Also my sister being here using the internet and some asshole in my building stealing my internet means that I'm currently suffering though 12 days of 64kb hell so flisting is taking forever.

That said I've been kind of glad to miss the House/Wilson fans acting like total fuckwits, God I hate House fandom, I've been in fandom for 15 years now and I have ever seen a group of people behave as consistently ridiculously as the various House shipper groups do.

Also caused my sister and I to squee for about three hours straight when we saw it and speaking of The X-files does anyone know if the trailer for XF:IWTB is going to be attached to Ironman in Australia as well? My sister and I are considering seeing it and if the trailer was attached then we would 99% go.

I have to finish cleaning my apartment before my sister arrives tomorrow night and put simply, I don't want to.

I'm tired, Good News Week is on, I still have to take a shower and I have to be up at 6am for eight hours of classes.

I still have to do the dishes, clean the bath/shower (all in one) and the sink and the toilet and put away two loads of washing and generally tidy. Yesterday I dusted, vacuumed and did the two loads of washing that are now waiting to be put away.

I HATE CLEANING!

ETA: I'm getting an earache too, my right ear feels all blocked and full and is starting to ache a little, I don't think it is an infection though, it has been really smoggy for the last few days and I'm generally feeling a little congested, I think the earache is just an extension of that.

Ignore me, I'm just generally irritable right now.

I fail sleeping.

Why am I not tired?

It is 12:30 (not at all late by my standards but still...) and I have to be up at 8am. I'm hoping that if I got to bed with some Arrested Development on that I'll fall asleep pretty quickly because I'm sick of ending up with sleep depravation headaches on Monday and Tuesday afternoons.

Also why do I read about timeslot changes and ratings in the 30_rock community, all that ever ends up happening is I end up getting anxious that yet another show I love will be canceled. This is probably irrational but I've been burnt one too many times by various US networks (and don't even get me started on Australian TV networks.) If 30 Rock got canceled I would cry. Seriously.

01. I have a bruise on the back of my hand that is a) very painful and b) completely mysterious in its origins, LAME.

02. I'm hating public transport even more than usual right now. There is tram work on Flinders Street in the city which means that the buses that go to and from La Trobe are being diveted. They are supposed to be running on Lonsdale Street which is actually more convienient for me as my bus runs along Lonsdale, too bad that in reality they are running to no predefined route whatsoever and it is pretty much up to random chance as to whether the bus will show or not. I've pretty much given up on the bus service for the time being and have started catching the tram instead which is a total pain in the ass as the tram takes about 70 minutes on a good run and up to 90 minutes in peak hour (the bus takes 40 minutes if it is an express service and 50-60 minutes if it is a Clifton Hill service.) The fact that everyone else who travels to La Trobe from the city also seems to be catching the tram isn't helping, I had to stand for the whole trip on Monday which for me is a total nightmare, my disabilitiy makes it difficult to balance at the best of time and makes standing on a moving object that repeatedly stops and starts a near impossibility. I was so exhausted by the time I got to university, I felt like I had run a marathon from the effort it took to remain upright and not fall. I've also had to stand on the bus on the way home a fair bit though I don't find it as difficult as the tram it is still pretty tiring.

03. Never Again is such an awesome episode of The X-files with all the discontent, rebellious, tattoo-getting, sextastic Scully and Mulder at Graceland, so much win there.

04. NEW EPISODE OF 30 ROCK TODAY! YAYS!!! I can barely wait.

05. I am finished all of my mid-semester assessment, I have written 33 pages of text in just under three weeks and for a change I'm actually feeing pretty confident with my work ~~which probably means it sucks~~. Now all I have to do is complete two major research projects, one a qualitative study of Sports Night fandom and one a media discourse analysis of AFL coverage in Sydney and Melbourne, write papers with the data gathered from those research projects, complete two presentations, wirte an essay and complete an exam. God that seems like A LOT OF WORK.

I'm a little in love with this layout, I used a base by passing_girl and experimented with transparency and drop shadows in the header image and I think it worked quite well. And I love that photo of David and Gillian.

ETA: Totally different layout, due to the fact that Firefox apparently won't display transparent .png files. I don't think this layout could be more different than the other one and though it looks way simpler it was much harder to do because it involved background deletion and odd width settings. I probably love it even more than the other layout. I love the mauve to pieces. My bedroom used to be pained about that colour when I was 10 or so years old.

Do you guys think that having three citations by one author is too many in an eight citation annotated bibliography?

All three citations are from or are of three different books, if that makes any difference.

(And it is hardly my fault that Henry Jenkins is pretty much the be all and end all when it comes to academic writing on media fandom.)

ETA: Speaking of Henry Jenkins, I love this quote from his book Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide: Fans are the most active segment of the media audience, one that refuses to simply accept what they are given, but rather insists on the right to become full participants.
