Hey guys!

Sorry it has been such a long time but I have been insanely busy with work and university. Things are now settling into something resembling a routine so I can finally get back to spending a little time on LJ, I've missed you guys.

I'm working (at university in the SRC or at the Union Services Centre) or doing university classes or university coursework Monday-Friday 10am-6pm in addition I have Media and Journalism Student's Association Excuitive meetings every Monday bfrom 6pm-7pm, SRC Clubs & Societies meetings from 6pm-8pm 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, ALP brach meetings 2nd Wednesday of the month from 7:30pm-9pm and Young Labor Left or La Trobe ALP Clubv events most Thursdays. So I hope you can forgive me for my absence in both commenting and posting.

I'm really enjoying my life right now, for a lot of last year especially the second half I felt bored, restless and socially disconnected (and more than likely looking back on it I was mildly depressed.) Now I'm feeling really happy, engaged and have been making much more effort to get socially involved which is paying off. I went to a friend of mine Mick's 20th Birthday drinks two Saturdays ago and out clubbing with the Queer Collective from university on Friday night. I also atteneded NOWSA (Network of Women Students of Australia) training camp last weekend which was an excellent experience (I'll write up a seperate post about it a little later as I'm sure several of you will find it of interest.)

I have a lot more to say but I have to go to a meeting in 15 minutes so I'll leave this post here.

P.S. I'm not even going to try to catch up on my f-list (I haven't properly read it in over three weeks) so if anything important has happened in your life in the past month tell me, I want to know.

University update - work things.
[info]stare_me_out
So,as you may or may not remember in September last year I met a guy named Bernard who is now a good friend who got me involved in campus politics or should I say involved in a particular facet of student politics, (I've always been involved in general capmus politics) the SRC.

Anyway in the last couple of weeks my job has begun and for various reasons I'm actually the only disability officer who is working in any day to day capacity, there are two of us but Claire is unable to work on the day to day things and because there hasn't been a disability officer since 2004 there is a lot of work to do. My goals for this semester are as follows:

  • To set up a space on campus for students with disabilities, this space will hopefully have tea/coffee making facilities and at least two computers with accessibility programs such as Naturally Speaking and JAWS.

  • To set up free printing for students with physical disabilities that require them to use a word processor to write and those whose disabilities mean that they need alternative formatting or documents.

  • Set up a mailing list for students with disabilities on campus to inform them of relevant events etc.

I've been slowly but steadily working on these goals, setting up meetings with the equality and diversity unit to discuss the space on campus for disabled students and contacting other universities to discuss how they handle the provision of photocopying and printing for disabled students.

In addition to my larger, longer-term goals I'm also in the process of creating a university survival guide for students with disabilities that I want to have ready for O-week that is requiring the collaboration of about 10 different university departments and am working with the rest of the SRC and the ALP club on O-week events.

In addition to my SRC job I'm also working at Contact (the student services centre) this year (I don't start until semester begins) as well so you will have to forgive me if I don't update as much as I used to, that said I will be spending a lot of time in my office procrastinating so I'll probably be updating more if anything.

Academic-related university rambling.

I have finally, finally, finally gotten my degree structure sorted out and this is filling me with joy as I have been stressing about it since November.

What follows is highly confusing, I had the poor guy whose job it was to work this all out so confused that he was near tears. )

So long story short I can double major in media studies and international relations which makes me very happy as that is what I wanted to do but wasn't sure if I could do it.

Now that my degree structure is sorted out I have finally been able to sort out which units I am taking in the last 18 months of my degree, my unit structure for this year is finalized and two out of three of my units for next year are as well.

A list of what I am studying this year + timetable and assessment requirements. )

That's not my name.

It's harder than it looks! Copy to your own LJ, erase my answers, enter yours, and tag ten people you know how we feel about tagging.

Use the first letter of your name to answer each of the following questions. They have to be real...nothing made up! If the person before you had the same first initial, you must use different answers. You cannot use any word twice and you can't use your name for the boy/girl name question.

1. What is your name: Jacqueline

2. A four letter word: Jinx

3. A boy's name: James (I now know so many guys named James that I need to define them by multiple characteristics to differentiate between them, eg: James from my Sex and the Media class with red hair.)

4. A girl's name: Julia (What I will call my firstborn daughter, if I ever have one to name.)

5. An occupation: Journalist (What I will hopefully be when I grow up.)

6. A colour: Jacaranda (My sister had to help with this one.)

7. Something you'll wear: Jumper (AKA a sweater.)

Do you consider yourself an optimist, a pessimist, or a realist?

I'd consider myself to to be an optimistic realist.

In which I apologize for having a life.

Sorry, sorry, sorry for not updating but I've been super ridiculously busy.

I got back to Melbourne on the 26th January at 8:30pm after a 12 hour train ride, then had to go straight out and do the grocery shopping.

I got up at 6am on 27th of January to start work (for those who weren't on my f-list last year I work as a casual at my university during enrollments and O-week, it doesn't pay much but it covers my textbooks for first semester, my sister came with me this year so she can get a little work experience.) This was repeated for the rest of the week.

Saturday 31st of January was my sister's birthday, we went shopping, and to the movies, saw Slumdog Millionaire, it was excellent, I highly recommend it.

I honestly can't remember what happened last Sunday.

Monday and Tuesday were orientation days for my other job, working at the La Trobe University SRC as Disability Officer, it was basically two days of meeting lots of new people and was pretty exhausting.

Wednesday we didn't do much and on Thursday we went to the NGV International, it was awesome, however by Thursday afternoon my mouth was beginning to get sore.

Woke up Friday with a raging salivary gland infection and had to go to the doctor, got put on Keflex which makes me sick and generally felt like curling up and dying for the next 36 hours.

Saturday we went to Chadstone despite the fact that I was still feeling pretty crappy because at least it was cool there, saw Role Models at the movies and it was pretty good, unfortunately at some point during the movie someone stole my wallet out of my handbag, lost my rent money and am now having to go through the epic pain in the ass that is getting all my ID replaced etc. replace but that really doesn't bother me all that much when100+ people in my state have died and 750+ families have lost their homes in bushfires. I'm just glad to be alive and that at this stage, as far as I know everyone I know is safe and well.

Sunday I didn't do anything and today I went spent the morning running around doing ID related things and getting access to my money again after having to cancel all my bank cards. In the afternoon I went back to Chadstone and brought some cute shoes and a diary to cheer myself up after getting sick and having my wallet stolen.

Tomorrow I'm back at work.
